Susanna and the Water Spirit

60 x 63 x 55 cm
Perspex, wood, metal
One of the two pieces I have created in the last months of my Degree Course at Camberwell College of Arts.
Susanna and the Water Spirit is an outcome of analysis of two themes of Susanna: I relate to a Slovak fairy tale, Pretty Susan and the Water Sprite by Maria Ďuríčková and to the Biblical tale of Susanna [Dn 13, 1-64] . The final piece is built from 5 layers of laser cut designs, meaningful on their own and brought together to form another vision. The piece also displays further studies of use of Geometry and Symbolics. I have included images of Seshat and Thoth as I have been working on areas of knowledge attributed to their domain. Just like in Cult, the layers reflect back to front when viewed from behind, creating endless repetitions of patterns.
